 Easy
border crossing apart from the obligatory three hour argument with the
customs office. Apparently, Botswana and RSA are one customs unit, so
you only need an exit stamp once you leave RSA. Drove on on wonderful
tarmac and there on the horizon was the alluring red, shiny, welcoming
golden arches of McDonalds! Geesh, this trip really is nearly over.
After a hearty, welcome home feast, we set off on the road again, as
have arranged to stay with friends, Anel and Jamie, near the town of
Beesterskraal. Her parents own a game farm and adventure centre for
children. After a sunset game drive, sipping ice cold Savannahs and
beers on the koppjie and a sublime home cooked meal, we fell into the
most comfortable bed ever. Think marshmallow meets fluffy cloud. What a
welcome to Sowf Efrika! |

 Ok,
we were only meant stay one night but with such glorious hospitality and
wonderful company, we simply had to stay longer. A huge thanks to Anel,
Jamie and the family for making us feel so welcome. A special thanks for
the awesome drumming lesson evening at the camp. Nice to know we still
have rhythm. |
| Day 259 16/8. Twana Lodge, Pretoria, South Africa |

| Drove into the vast metropolis of Pretoria. Tried to stay at Blue Chilli Backpackers but although it was a very cool place, they didn't really have space for Dino so we headed for Twana Lodge (€4.50pp). A huge place just outside town with massive grounds and a vast array of dogs, including a chocolate brown Great Dane puppy called Atilla. Back to inventive camping food and frosty nights in the tent. |

| Explored the contents of the Menlyn Mall, one of the largest malls in the Southern Hemisphere…very scary. How can we successfully navigate our way round Africa, yet manage to get lost in a mall? Carried out some very un-overland activities: bought our wedding rings and chose our gift registry. Had been invited to stay with keen landy owners, Willie and Annetjie, who we meet in Tanzania and headed to their security encapsuled home in the suburbs. Spoilt us rotten with the most delicious home cooked meal and more fluffy cloud moments. |

| Once again, just had to stay another day due to fabulous South African hospitality. Went round to their son's house for an awesome meat feast braai. |
