saying byeMore spoiling this morning, as we treated to a wonderful breakfast with homemade bread, homemade guava and fig jams, smoked kudu and much much more. They invited us to stay longer for the weekend but we sadly had to say no as we needed to get back to Windhoek. Another sad farewell to T and M and we were off. Not sure when we'll see them again. We left the farm with fully rested and full tumies. This next decision was purely my influence but I convinced Rob we really should stay in a nice swanky guesthouse for one night. Alas, they only had room left with no bath but we decided to stay anyway, as there was a jacuzzi outside. Rob treated me to the most delicious dinner complete with Gin and Tonics! Sadly, neither of us could sleep, (even though the bed was way more comfortable than the tent!) which resulted us watching Harry Potter on Sat TV at 3am.
Day 163 12/5. Cardboard Box Backpackers, Windhoek, Namibia

jacuzziSpent the morning in the jacuzzi! Eventually had to leave and made our way back to reality….yup, back to camping at the backpackers in Windhoek with beans and potato for dinner. Have decided to tie the knot when we reach Cape Town. Friday 21st September. Am very excited, as Lisa arrives tomorrow!
Day 164 13/5. Cardboard Box Backpackers, Windhoek, Namibia

Up early to pick her up. She looks amazing and wow, we have SO much to catch up on. Spent the day at the pool. Poor old Rob, way too much girl power for him. Went back to Joes Beerhouse (the meat feat haunt) and enjoyed succulent Gemsbok fillet steaks. Rob had a medley of Ostrich, Springbok and Gemsbok complete with flaming Witblits. (the Afrikaaner version of Moonshine, I guess) Night, night!
Day 165 14/5. Cardboard Box Backpackers, Windhoek, Namibia

Couldn't face leaving today, so spent the day sorting out some laundry, internet etc.
Day 166 15/5. Dinosaur Footprints campsite, Namibia
21°02.72'S 16°23.56'E. Miles today 153, Total 15779
dino footprint is my foot big in this? After clearing out the supermarket of sausage and alcohol, we headed north again to visit some impressive dinosaur footprints embedded in the rock. It was such a lovely place that we spent the night in their campsite. I was way impressed, as the showers had obviously been designed by a woman. No fewer than 10 hooks to hang your clothes on, an enormous shelf (to take my equally enormous toiletry bag) and….a rock to lift your leg on for shaving your pins! I know!
Day 167 16/5. Halali camp, Etosha Namibia
19°02.35'S 16°28.25'E. Miles today 211, Total 15990
Ellephants Springbok zebra
A long day driving to Etosha, reaching our camp at Halali just before sunset. We raced to the watering hole and wow, 5 minutes later, a whole herd of elephants came trundling through the bushes and down to the water to play. Rob's very excited and back in National Geographic Photographer mode again. Tri-pod and all! The camp was hectically busy, with braais blazing and potjies everywhere. Watch out for the dustbin raiding honey badgers. Oh and the Germans!
Day 168 17/5. Bush camp, D3001, East of Etosha East gate, Namibia
18°42.41'S 17°15.21'E. Miles today 114, Total 16104
lion zebra sprinbok bird
mud bath etosha itch
horse play drinking
Just spent the day driving around Etosha, being spoilt with loads of elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and a lion. Just how many photos has my Nikon Uber-nerd taken? Bushcamped somewhere just outside the park with a yummy potato bake in the potjie. Thoroughly enjoying have Lisa with us.
